The Movie Chevron Doesn’t Want You to See

by Scott Badenoch on 08.31.09

Why it matters:

Multi-nationals like Chevron have been destroying communities and the planet all in the name of profit without ramifications for decades and it is time for that to end.

Recap:

Beginning on September 9, the world will be able to see CRUDE, an award-winning documentary film that chronicles the epic battle to hold oil giant Chevron accountable for its systematic contamination of the Ecuadorian Amazon – an environmental tragedy experts call “the Rainforest Chernobyl.”

Centering on a $27 billion lawsuit filed by the Indigenous people and campesinos who continue to suffer a severe public health crisis caused by Chevron’s contamination, CRUDE is a high-stakes David vs. Goliath legal drama with 30,000 Amazon Rainforest dwellers facing down the fifth largest corporation on the planet.

With key support from Rainforest Action Network and Amazon Watch, people from all over the country are coming together to watch this incredible film and to support the struggle highlighted so powerfully by the film.

Commentary:

A victory for the Ecuadorian plaintiffs in the lawsuit will send shock waves through corporate boardrooms around the world, invigorating communities fighting against injustice by oil companies.  The success of the campaign can change how the oil industry operates by sending a clear signal that they will be held financially liable for their abuses.

See the entire list of screenings across the country here.

Supporting this film sends a clear message to Chevron and the world’s worst abusers: we, the people, will no longer allow your destructive methods to go unnoticed and most importantly, unpunished.

CRUDE actually opens in New York on September 9th, and then goes on to play in Los Angeles (above it says “Beginning on September 17″). You can check out all the current dates & locations here: http://www.crudethemovie.com/now-playing/
Please note that theaters nationwide will be watching to see how the film performs in the first few weeks to decide whether to screen it themselves so please, help us spread the word!
